“A DICKENS OF A CHRISTMAS”
When Charles Reinvented the Festive Season
A costumed radio play by Jenny Davis OAM
Presented by The Order of St John of Jerusalem Knights Hospitaller and St George's Cathedral this is a special Christmas charity event in aid of
Give A Feed.
One performance only!
Returning by popular demand, Charles Dickens’ immortal tale of Scrooge, has been reinvented by the wonderful Jenny Davis OAM. Jenny, to tell the story of what might have happened if Charles Dickens, creator of “A Christmas Carol” and ‘conscience’ of the Victorian Era, had met with Henry Cole, creator of the Christmas Card. The tale allows for scenes from “A Christmas Carol”; of how the Christmas Card swept into the world; and carols and music borne of the joy that the Festive season brings.
Since 2012, a wonderful troupe of performers from Theatre 180, ranging from 8 to 78 years;
Isaac Diamond, Katie Keady, Benj D’Addario, Saskia Haluszkiewicz, Remy Davis, Bernie Davis, Natasha Fraser, Oliver Halusz, Tessa Keady, and Jaxson Wilson-Vacca, have come together with musicians to volunteer their time and talents to raise funds and help make Christmas a little happier for people experiencing homelessness. Given Dickens extraordinary philanthropic spirit and concern for those in need, he would certainly have approved.
Joining this stellar ensemble for 2024 will be the Metropolitan Symphany Orchestra, the
Ukrainian Choir, the founder of Freeze Frame Opera, Harriett Marshall, and a special performance by Perth Undergraduate Choral Society, the WA 2024 champion choir for ABC Radio Classics, will give a special WA premiere performance of a new Christmas Carol composed by Deborah Chreetham-Fraillon.
This year, all proceeds from what is sure to be a colourful, fun-filled performance, will go directly to provide food hampers for the homeless at Christmas through Give A Feed, which was started in 2011. With the generous support from the WA community, the goal is to provide more than 3,000 Festive Hampers to Western Australian families in need so they can celebrate Christmas with their loved ones.
Don’t miss this uplifting evening of theatre and music, in the beautiful surroundings of
St George’s Cathedral, and support Dickens purpose to
Give A Feed.
